Biography

Alex van de Minne is a visiting assistant professor at Cornell University's SC Johnson College of Business. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam's Amsterdam Business School and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. from Delft University of Technology. Before joining Cornell, he was an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut's School of Business (2019–2026) and a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at the MIT Center for Real Estate (2015–2019), where he founded and led the Real Estate Price Dynamics Platform. He is also a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, where his research supports county-level commercial property price indexes used to monitor bank loan performance. His research focuses on commercial property price dynamics, spatial and financial econometrics, Bayesian structural time series models, and machine learning applications in real estate, and has been published in journals including Real Estate Economics, The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and The Journal of Real Estate Research. He is the main author of the fourth edition of Commercial Real Estate Analysis & Investment and serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Real Estate Research and The Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management. Outside academia, he has consulted for MSCI and Moody's Analytics, developing widely used commercial property price indexes, cap rate models, and liquidity indicators.
